From green to gettin' there
Steel cabinets glazed with green paint. Not a recipe for a fun time.
These two cabinets (if you haven't read it, here's the backstory) have taken an enormous amount of time and patience to prepare for installation. After trying a "green" paint remover that didn't make a dent, we sheepishly turned to the old fashioned toxic stuff but that didn't work either! The job called for rolled up sleeves, pad sanders, lotsa sheets of various sandpaper and some compromises.
We decided to forgo removing ALL the green paint for simply removing it from the fronts of the cabinets, 6 drawers and two doors. We're still decided wether to treat the rough silver so that it doesn't rust, or leave it to the elements and see where it takes us...any opinions are welcome!
Installed the plywood top and sink on Sunday and now we wait for the lagos blue (which isn't really blue by the way) marble remnant to be turned into the countertop...two weeks to go until I can brush my teeth upstairs. Something to look forward to.
PS - the paint colors on the top of the plywood are the accent and complimentary colors for the wall: safari green and fossil. Actually, these paint chips are not VOC-free, so they won't be exact, but we'll find VOC-free paints that are a close match! In hindsight...perhaps we could have left them green afterall?
