Lights, Camera, Action!

What do violent explosions, a prolific American writer and Nicole Kidman have in common? They were all part of a movie made in our backyard!

If you recall from previous posts, the neighborhood we live in is home to the historic 16th Street Train Station. You can read more about it here and here.

Sometime around February we started seeing activity taking place in the station grounds. Trucks, scissor lifts, equipment and supplies began to appear. There was work going on inside the train station and the neighbors began to talk. Actually, I must confess that a friend of ours was working on the project and we got a little insider info as the project was unfolding (shhhhhhhh!)

By the time March arrived, the depot had been renamed, "Hotel Florida", tents and trailers had set up in the area surrounding the station and people were coming and going from daybreak to dusk. Even notices were posted alerting the neighborhood to that fact that there would be random explosions occurring during the day at 16th and Wood.

HBO was filming part of its upcoming movie, Hemingway & Gelhorn, at the Station. And here’s the movie trailer to prove it:
