671 steps

What was born in 1905, is 7.4 miles long, has 671 steps and zig zags through valleys of redwoods and across mountain ridges on its way to the sandy shores of the Pacific Ocean?

It's the oldest trail race in America and one of the most beautiful trails in the world...the Dipsea. I walked a bit of it on Sunday afternoon. Or shall I say...climbed?

The start from the picturesque village of Mill Valley is a little intimidating for sure. Once you get moving it's best just to keep one foot in front of the other and lock your eyes on what's directly in front of you. I personally also enjoy the distraction of idle chit chat, though it can be exhausting for those who walk beside me. On this particular day, there were two poor souls who'd agreed to join me on what ended up being a spectacular 5ish m
ile hike, with a break at the crest for a cold beer and beautiful view of the Bay.

The Dipsea
race is on June 13. You won't see me lining up at 8:30 a.m. to race, but after spending time on the mountain last Sunday, I am inspired to visit again real soon.
