A boy and his borrowed bicycle

Thursday was Bike to Work Day and look who I found ready to head to work on his borrowed bike...

As you can imagine, the Bay Area in general makes a big deal out of this special day. You'd have to be in some kind of deep sleep in order to miss it. Reminders are everywhere. Articles and advertisements. Posters and flyers. Stories on websites and coverage on blogs.  Energizer stations across the city, free bike valets and a pancake breakfast downtown.  It's the time to celebrate the freedom and enjoyment that comes from cycling...and there's no shortage of people who participate in the party!

So you might be asking, what's the headline reference to the borrowed bike?  One of the fun things we discovered about our complex during an early tour was The Velo Lounge - a bike storage room complete with two repair stands, air pumps and basic tools, comfy furniture, a wall of lockers and 20+ loaner bikes that residents can use for commuting or pleasure. Since we've only recently rescued our own bikes from deep storage and haven't had a chance yet to have them tuned up, John grabbed one of loaners and rode off into the sunshine!
