From street to sweet!

This afternoon while I was working, I received an unusual email. It contained a short message: "I think we should grab this." A photo was attached:

Not one to turn down something really cool for free, I replied, "Grab it - fast!"

Ten or fifteen minutes later, John returned from his errand empty-handed. I guess I didn't read his note closely enough - it was over 9' tall and wasn't really going to fit into our Prius...so if we wanted it, we were going to have to carry it home...about a mile.

I quickly put on my work clothes and off we scurried to claim our prize. A 9 1/2' x 5' scenic flat from a stage production of Oliver, discarded by the Berkeley Rep Scene Shop. A notation on the canvas indicated it was originally built by the American Repertory Theater in Boston. It was beautiful. We were charmed. We barely noticed the large tear in the upper left hand corner.

John lifted one end and I took the other. We headed down Wood Street...slowly...we had a mile ahead of us and we weren't going to rush it. Every 1/4 mile or so we stopped for a short rest. We admired our find. So did a few passers by who were also rummaging for items along the road on a Sunday.

We finally made it home with our special find. After a little minor surgery and some TLC, we placed it on our living room wall.

Sometimes Christmas comes early.
