Krazy for Kraut

While walking through the Jack London Farmer's Market last week, I spotted a sign for Kraut Juice. Really? Now, I truly enjoy good sauerkraut but as any normal person would, I typically drain the sour juice off before eating it. My curiosity was sufficiently peaked, however, and I made a b-line for the tent.

To my delight, there was Farmhouse Culture from Santa Cruz, hawking several varieties of their kraut and singing the praises of lactic acid fermentation. If you don't know much about kraut, you might want to read Farmhouse Culture's 5 reasons to eat kraut.

I didn't need persuading...I stood in line to try all three types: classic caraway, smoked jalapeno and horseradish leek. The smoked jalapeno won my heart with its smoky heat, shredded carrots and crunchy radish. I went home with a jar...a reusable ceramic signature jar. It was perfect on a grilled sausage...yum!
