In late June, two of our amazing friends packed up their bikes and rode from Half Moon Bay to Santa Barbara...camping along the way. Inspired by their adventure, John announced the next morning that we were going to become "bike people."
It wasn't as if this was an idea completely out of the blue...we had talked about wanting to use on our bikes more, but we hadn't yet made the effort to get ourselves or our cycles geared up. So we were off to REI for the necessary accoutrements. We also joined the East Bay Bicycle Coalition and found a whole community of bicycle enthusiasts working to making cycling a safer and more readily accepted mode of transportation.
Quite a few weeks have passed since then and we've embarked on some great local pedaling journeys. Nothing beats cycling as a way to explore your environs and we've discovered some incredible new places (to us).
Here are a few goofy shots from a 22+ mile ride around Lake Merritt, across Alameda and around Bay Farm Island--where there are some amazing views of San Francisco and a great little estuary that looks perfect for kayaking.
Stay tuned for more reports on our "bike people" adventures!

Yay for cycling!
