This morning, after I dropped John off at BART, I headed off to run an errand at Jack London Square and on the way back...I spotted ANOTHER local farmer's market...in Old Oakland.
Having visited nearly all of the Oakland markets now, I have to say this is my favorite. It's location near Chinatown makes it a natural market for a broad offering of Asian produce--bok choy, lemongrass, Asian pears, duck eggs--and for some good old fashioned nudgy-nudges by the aged women who are on a single-focused shopping mission.
But it is also one of the most diverse markets I've visited in the East Bay. They also have the mouth-watering Roti rotisserie chicken, fantastic Afghan and Indian food, fresh tamales, and...it's the only Oakland market where I can find my favorite Great Harvest Woodstock bread!
It is an event not to be missed.
